FOREST CAN-DLE (Entry from Oklahoma, United States)

The scent of fresh trees within Christian’s neighborhood (@makerieday) encouraged her to make this nature-inspired candle decor. Christian is a pro-DIY-er and maintains a blog named  “Makerie Day”, a place where she allows herself to explore, experience, make & create awesome stuff to share with her followers.

Garnering 77 VOTES in total with her design, she bagged Kitchen Mama’s grand prize — an iPhone 12 Pro. Congratulations, Christian!

Who wouldn’t be amazed by her craft seeing she only used resources readily available as she took a walk in her own backyard?

If you want to recreate her design, just don’t forget to obtain a candle wick and a few wax blocks, or for a more eco-friendly alternative, beeswax and a container where you’ll melt them to pour over our empty can for the final product.

Indeed, the very purpose and vision of our Christmas Can Craft Design Contest 2020 is to upcycle cans and make them noteworthy gift material for Christmas! The Christmas spirit is totally strong with this one. This Forest Can-dle is an easy inexpensive gift for a friend or neighbor!

Instruction:

  1. Go foraging in your own backyard and gather the materials needed for our nature-inspired scented Forest Can-dle.
  1. Measure and cut the twigs against the side of the clean empty can and glue each stick one at a time around the can until you achieve a rustic look.

      3. Hot glue the candle wick to the bottom.

 4. Cut the wax into cubes and melt in a glass bowl in the microwave at 30-minute intervals until all melted.  Drop in your scents and stir!

  5. With the clothespin attached to the wick and resting on the edge of the can, pour candle wax into the can.

6. With the clothespin attached to the wick and resting on the edge of the can, pour candle wax into the can.

 7. For the aesthetic addition of dried oranges (personal preference), tuck it in and arrange around the wick when the wax is almost dry.

  • *Dried Oranges: Prepare them beforehand by slicing, sprinkling them with sugar, and baking them in the oven at 200 degrees for 2 1/2 hours.

8.Glue on cinnamon sticks and cedar around the can then tie on a ribbon, and glue the pinecones over the ribbon.

Now you have your Forest Can-dle ready to hand out to someone special in your life as a Christmas gift!
